The “Royal” NFT combines breathtaking NASA telescope space images with inspiring music from gospel artist Kaya Jones. The JACY Project has committed to dedicating 50 percent of NFT’s proceeds to educational opportunities for women in STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. The move is intended to empower underrepresented groups and promote equality in these disciplines.
As of March 2024, women composed only 29 percent of the workforce in the field, according to a recent report from the Institution of Engineering and Technology. This disparity is not lost on Yoder, who had the opportunity to teach a high school Aerospace Engineering class after retiring from his various leadership roles at NASA.
“I was disheartened by the underrepresentation of women in the classroom,” Yoder said. “As I heard their challenges and stories of why they chose the field of Engineering I became passionate about increasing the opportunities for women in STEAM.”
Yoder will play a key role in identifying a benefitting organization to receive the proceeds. As someone who saw dreams and ideas turn into unimaginable scientific wonders at NASA, he says he’s excited to partner with Jones and The JACY Project to help women pursue their goals.
Jones, who has always been interested in space exploration, says she’s thrilled to be a part of a project that advances STEAM and female participation in it.
“Women should have a voice in tech and I’m honored to help young women reaching for the stars,” Jones says.
The “Royal” NFT is the first release from JACY Science, a specialized subgroup of The JACY Project.
