About the Arles Photo Festival

The Rencontres d’Arles (formerly called Rencontres internationales de la photographie d’Arles) was founded in 1970 by the Arles photographer Lucien Clergue, the writer Michel Tournier and the historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette. It has since established a reputation for being the best event of its kind in the world, for breaking amazing new talent, and for showing material never before seen by the public. In recent years, more than 100,000 visitors come to the event from across the globe.

The 2024 Arles International Photography Festival will be held from 1 July to 29 September and the theme this year is the “Beneath the Surface”.
